The Extinct Ape of the Jungle BookIn 2016's live action remake of The Jungle Book there are many different animals that make an appearance. One of which is "King Louie." Too most viewers King Louie is simply an Orangutan. Interestingly, those viewers would be incorrect. "The king of the swinger's world" is actually a Gigantopithecus, as mentioned in the lyrics to the song "I wanna be like you" in the 2016 remake. Most people might assume that the Gigantopithecus is just the genus or family in which Orangutans are classified, but the Gigantopithecus is actually a species of ape that went extinct about 100,000 years ago. Although both Gigantopithecus and Orangutan are classified into subfamily Ponginae, they are not the same animal.

Spix Macaws' Big Screen Recognition in 2011In 2011 the movie "Rio" hit theaters. This fun movie takes you on an adventure with two birds. But not just any two birds; the main characters in Rio, Blu and Jewel, are actually representing an endangered species. The Spix Macaw, no less. Blu was based on a real-life macaw named Presley. Unfortunately Presley's story is a little less cheery than Blu's but the two macaws had a lot of personality similarities. They were both calm and felt comfortable around humans. You can learn more about these Macaw by reading my post about Spix Macaw.
